Who Are You Anyway?

So many people put their entire identity in what they do for a living.  Sometimes, if circumstances arise, and they find themselves no longer doing that job, they’re lost.  That job had become their identity, and without it, they start to wonder who is the person in the mirror.  I get it.  I’m an artist.  That’s part of my identity, but I’ve come to realize, that’s not who I am.

When I was a kid, I used to think I was secretly some super hero, and no one knew it but me.  I know that’s a silly notion, but it’s kind of true.  Think about it.  If you’re born again, there’s a new identity inside you.  A super identity. [perhaps more accurately, a *supernatural* identity]  One that overcomes the world (1 John 5:4).  One that’s greater than the things of this earth  (1 John 4:4).  The Spirit that dwells in you is the same Spirit that raised Christ from the dead! (Romans 8:11).

It’s time for us to start putting stock in our identity in Christ.  The end is near.  Jesus is coming back.  It’s time to be about our Father’s business.  So the question is, who are you within the body of Christ?  What is your role?  Are you an intercessor?  A prayer warrior?  A prophet?  A pastor?  Evangelist?  Hard worker?  Helper?  Missionary?  Business tycoon who’s job is to fund the gospel?  If you don’t already know, it’s definitely time to find out.  I know who I am.  I know what my jobs in the Kingdom are.  It’s time for us all to get it in gear and start moving the direction the Kingdom is moving with the body of Christ.  It’s time to realize that our spiritual identity is more real and more important than our earthly identity.  Everything we are on earth is going to pass away one day.  Only what we did for the Kingdom will remain, and pass through to eternity with us.

I encourage you to seek God and discover your true identity and role in the body of Christ.  Once you know who you are, start acting on it.  Start taking small steps to walk in that role.  You don’t need a title, just make sure you’re lining up with the word of God and you’re not doing something your pastor would not approve of! You don’t need a title to start praying for people.  You don’t need a title to start worshipping God with the heart of a true worshipper.  Just start doing it, start small, take steps, and God will grow you in it.  You can hear God for yourself, it’s just a matter of spending more time with Him, in His word and in prayer.

Imagine how the world would change if all the people who called themselves Christians started acting like sold-out, on-fire believers like we see in the book of Acts!  Imagine how the world would change if Christians started seeing themselves through the lens of their identity in Christ.

Wake up, Chrisitan! It’s time to change the world!
